While browsing through the business of fashion website, it introduced an online Fashion styling and image making course. Throughout the introductory video by Chambers, it mentioned "If you love colour, texture, photography, imagery and people then you probably are stylist," (Fashion Styling and Image Making with Lucinda Chambers | The Business of Fashion, 2019). This further boost up every team members’ confidence to further invest their efforts in working towards their passion. The website also showcase on how to build an effective portfolio and concepts, share tips on how to organise a shooting; and the ways on dealing with multiple clients and attain their needs (The Business of Fashion, 2018).
It is not an easy task to become a Fashion stylist. Firstly, it is vital to have a pre-understanding on the stylist’s direction and how to work towards it. A stylist basically can be separated into three categories, which include brand consultancy, celebrity styling and editorial styling/ styling for photoshoots. (Searchingforstyle.com, 2011). Brand Consultancy Firstly, a brand consultancy is someone who is hired by a brand and their job scope involve overseeing the entire design process. However, some brands hired brand consultancy prior to the completion of design process. This is because the brand requires assistance in piecing the clothes together (Searchingforstyle.com, 2011). The stylist will then gave their idea based on the designer research, ideas, and sketches (Searchingforstyle.com, 2011). He/ She is responsible to choose the garments, accessories, and ensure that the apparels are perfectly styled and appear in fashion magazine or catwalk (Searchingforstyle.com, 2011). Celebrity Styling A celebrity stylist involved a lot of hard work, from choosing celebrity’s clothes and accessories for normal and special occasion, such as launching event to making appointments (Searchingforstyle.com, 2011). While dressing a celebrity, stylist needs to consider the brand relationship between a celebrity and the brand. The emerging fashion trends needed to stay on top of the world and styling message to appear in public (Searchingforstyle.com, 2011). Having a good rapport between a stylist and brand PR could be mutually beneficial to both parties in creating brand awareness and develop an ongoing, professional relationship (Searchingforstyle.com, 2011). Editorial Styling/ Styling for photoshoot Editorial styling/ photoshoot can be described as a team working together with a stylist, photographer, model, hair stylist as well as makeup artist. An Editorial stylist would convey the shooting concept and the theme of the collection. The team would then carry out further discussion, on brainstorming and conceptualising and decide on the final shooting concept (Searchingforstyle.com, 2011). This role is applicable for TV commercials, Magazine, Music Videos, film and television (Searchingforstyle.com, 2011).
